Karen completed her pupillage with Mr. Albert Luk, Mr. Philips B. F. Wong, Mr. Vincent Chen and Mr. Albert N. B. Wong. During her pupillage, she was particularly active in the areas of intellectual property, contract, companies, criminal defence, and judicial review.
In intellectual property she was involved in a number of copyright and trademark disputes. She has participated in opposing the registration of a mark, applying for summary judgment for infringement, and the invalidation of a registered mark at trial.
In other civil litigation, Karen has worked on matters such as amendments to pleadings, contested discovery obligations, winding up petitions, distraint proceedings, an executor’s duty to account, and the enforcement of a loan agreement. She has assisted in trials involving allegations of loans, breaches of contract, breaches of director’s duties, and challenges to the validity of wills. Additionally, she has handled appellate matters that focused on the release from a deemed admission regarding the authenticity of a written loan agreement.
Karen has experience in criminal defence, having assisted in trials of conspiracy to use a copy of a false instrument, the management of a vice establishment, smuggling diesel, as well as those of a more serious nature, such as dangerous driving causing death, trafficking in dangerous drugs, possession of firearms, and manslaughter.
In judicial review, Karen has contributed to appeals in relation to the letter of no consent regime, and to forced labour and trafficking in persons, as well as leave applications concerning the Buildings Appeal Tribunal and non-refoulement claims.
Karen accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers work. She is natively fluent in English, fluent in Cantonese and has a good command of Putonghua.
